Foundation Presents Annual Boeing Safety Award

Washington, DC, October 29, 2013 – At its annual International Air Safety Summit, the Flight Safety Foundation presented the FSF-Boeing Lifetime Achievement Safety Award to Lee Wan-Lee, Deputy Director General of the Civil Aeronautics Administrations, Taiwan, China in recognition of his efforts in the areas of flight standards, aircraft certification, regulatory upgrading, international safety cooperation and the dissemination of flight safety information.

“Mr. Lee’s work has touched just about every aspect of Taiwan aviation safety, including his tireless work to raise the Taiwan Civil Aviation Authority from Category II to Category I in the FAA International Safety Assessment,” commented FSF President and CEO Kevin Hiatt. “We are honored to recognize his lifetime of work with this award and look forward to his continued work top advance aviation safety.”

Among his many achievements, Mr. Lee was responsible for negotiating with national aviation authorities to develop the Bilateral Safety Agreement that has so far been signed with Brazil, the Czech Republic, the European Aviation Safety Agency, France, Israel and the US. He also assumed the role as chief negotiator with the People’s  Republic of China on cross-strait aviation negotiations, the safety of which is no well maintained. He also chairs Flight Safety Foundation – Taiwan, China.

“Mr. Lee has demonstrated strong ethics and professionalism in every position he has held, earning respect and recognition around the world,” Capt. Hiatt continued. “This is a well-deserved award for him.”

The FSF-Boeing Lifetime Achievement Safety Award is an annual award given out each year in recognition of an individual’s lifetime commitment to advancing aviation safety. The award was established in 2002 and is given out annually at FSF’s International Air Safety Summit.
